We Are the Champions!

Well, not quite yet, but let's celebrate the awesome US soccer/football victory, which happened in the epitome of team sports movie fashion.

Forgive the nationalism and the gushing, but we have a good looking team. I think soccer players are the athletes I find the most attractive - had crushes on them since I was a kid, and definitely wanted to be good at the sport back in middle school. Sadly, I was never that great, but I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back in the spirit watching the World Cup this summer.

But getting to the point - beyond being impressive as players, these dudes are sexy AND sassy.

Case in point, Landon Donovan - who has saved the team a few times in the past few games with some choice goals.

Thanks to Jillian for sharing this amazing photo. The sideways glance, pout, raised eyebrows - Classic Soccer Sass, also he's gripping the water fountain a little too hard...and I like that.

Jozy Altidore (THE BEST) shows his sass on the field.

While, my current crush, Clint Dempsey (Who could be brotherhood?! - i.e. cousin named, Arya Ashtari) has got skillz that rival other athletes turned rappers (Go to 2:38 to see the freestyle).

But sometimes sass isn't quite in your face. Confident Tim Howard exudes sass in how he protects that goal.
Though pouting, tats, and being all dirty/oily/hot c/o of an Interview photo shoot doesn't hurt. either. Check that video out, it's the best counter to those behind-the-scenes vids they do for cover girls in Complex magazine. In any case, I'll be rooting for them in the tournament and will keep loving the sass these players bring on and off the field.

It Had to Be You

Sorry for the epic hiatus, but I got a good one for you all today.

Back in college, Tara and I would go on rom-com binges. Still despite the binges, When Harry Met Sally... remains one canonical movie that I have never seen all of in one sitting. This is a sad truth, since I think there are some liberating elements of the gender politics in the film, despite the typical conservative and heteronormative stance that is typical of many films in this genre.

Sidenote: I'm also trying to get back on my academic writing grind, as you can tell ;)

It's also sad that I haven't seen the movie in one whole sitting, because it's a favorite of many, including Tara Jean, and it deals with very relevant issues in most twentysomethings' lives, such as brief encounters, friendships, romance, general love life stuff in adult life after college, sexual fulfillment, finding your soulmate (if you believe in that sort of thing), and more specifically, the shift from Chicago to New York, midwest to east coast, well in my case it's reversed, but I'm going to experience both.

With all this said, I'm not going to share a pic of Meg or Billy, but draw your attention to the fabulous soundtrack of the movie, with amazing covers mostly done by this man.
Yes, it's Harry Connick Jr., whose talent apparently dwarfs his own medium, and thanks to my Frank Sinatra Pandora station, I was able to recall a memory of watching this video with Ms. Tara in our Westco 2 dorm room.

But is my trip down memory lane to get us to Harry really relevant? I mean is he SASSY? Well, I would say that his over-gelled hair is aspiring for some kind of sassy smooth look, but if you want more evidence.
Oh snap! Didn't you miss us?

Thank You for Being a Friend

Sorry it's been more than a month now. We've left you hanging, but thanks for sticking through. This past Saturday, the much-beloved Bea Arthur passed away. I was terribly upset! Thanks to Jillian though, I can pay some respect to her and be back on my sassy grind, because Bea truly was a classic.
She has some finely sculpted brows and that great sideways glance, plus I love how she uses her chin! Take 2!
Yep, the lady's got it! And nothing says sassy like a girl who can be a friend on and off-screen, and knows how to affirm you but tell it to you straight: Girl, fix your face!
She's a total gem and stunna, and she's fierce, stylish, and definitely sassy.
She will be greatly missed, but hopefully we can take from what she had to offer and hope that when we're older we can still retain all the spunk of our youth, and have some wisdom to boot!

Sassy Lite

I apologize that it's been more than a week since I posted. Sorry to leave you sassy-lovers hangin' but today I want to focus on some dynamic duos that can often be heard on easy listening stations. When I was younger it was my dad's favorite station, soft rock and classic hits, 107.9 WTPI. Kenny has proved that even if you're featured on the Time Life infomercial for their Classic Soft Rock CD collection you can still be sassy. Similarly, these power couples of easy listening do the same.
So maybe not all of you know the magnificence that is Go West, but this British pop duo of the late '80s and early '90s, was listed as my favorite band in my 9-year-old diary. I personally loved their cover of "What You Won't Do For Love" and later as a freshman in college, Tara and I bonded over "King of Wishful Thinking" featured on the Pretty Woman soundtrack! As you can see in the photo the pouts and the brows are working full force. Also the feathered hair doesn't hurt. Still, it bothers me that Peter Cox, right, is giving a much more earnest-bordering-on-angry sassy face while Richard Drummie looks slightly confused and cold. The confusion continues. Then of course there is the more famous British pop duo of Wham! They are one of the best examples of sassy hair ever! Though again here one half of the duo is doing twice the work. Sorry Andrew Ridgeley but please observe the sassy George in this glorious video, which thanks to Landon, I now know was the number one song the week I was born!

Though I love all these boys, in the world of power duos, and many friends will attest to this, nothing quite compares to this kind of sassy perfection.
"Well well you (ooh ooh ooh ooh) / You make my dreams come true (you you you you)"

If Looks Could Kill: The Boys (and Girls!) of Prison Break

I’ve got so many guilty pleasures when it comes to television, but Prison Break is one of my favorites. And…I have to admit that my absence from the blog has been partially Prison-Break-induced. So what better way to honor these (sometimes) beautiful men than to create an homage to their baldyheaded, brooding sass?

WARNING: As I love this show more than is probably healthy, I had trouble narrowing down the sass, so…I included them all. Image-heavy.

The Good Guys…kind of

The star of our show (and arguably the most beautiful man alive), Mr. Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield. His sass is generally very brooding and scowly.

Dominic Purcell, the break-ee and foxy big brother Linc. Also brooding.

Amaury Nolasco’s Sucre…just…mmm. That’s all. You can sass me any day.

Rockmond Dunbar as C-Note. Just makes you wonder how they convinced so many pretty men to sign on to the same project.

Marshall Allman as Linc’s son LJ shows that he got his sass from daddy, particularly in the lip-curl department.

They’ve got the foxy ladies too. Sarah Wayne Callies’ take-no-mess Dr. Tancredi demonstrates the sass that made Michael love her.

The Bad Guys

Definitely the sassiest (and most lecherous…and most terrifying) man on the show, Robert Knepper’s T-Bag represents for creepos everywhere.

Agent Kellerman (Paul Adelstein). So delicious. So badass. Can sass you even through his shades.

Gretchen Morgan aka “Susan B. Anthony” is one of the newer villains…and one of the awesomest. Through waterboarding and other tortures (admittedly, you can’t really say this show treats the ladies all that well), she maintains her scary sass. Jodi Lyn O'Keefe's got the sassy pose down pat.

The Good Bad Good-Turned-Bad Bad-Turned-Good…erm, well…these guys are on the show, too.

While Lane Garrison’s role as Tweener was relatively short-lived, this face makes him a shoo-in for the post.

Only William Fichtner’s acting skillz could make Agent Mahone go from deplorable to lovable so quickly.

You’re not supposed to look Haywire in the eye…clearly because he’s got too much sass for anyone to handle. Silas Weir Mitchell shows how the crazy eyes can add to the sass factor.

I miss Abruzzi…so classy, so sassy.
